Creator and owner, Julia, fell in love with the Asian culture at a young age.
After studying and working in Asia, she returned to the US, and in her transition, she began to be drawn to pearls. Culturing freshwater pearls began in China, and is prevalent in and around Shanghai. Through her travels back and forth to China, Julia became more and more interested in pearls, AND designing jewelry with them.
All of the freshwater pearl jewelry pieces at Zhulia are handmade by creator, Julia.
A graduate of the Gemological Institute’s Applied Jewelry Arts Program and Graduate Pearls, Julia makes several trips to China and Asia each year and hand picks these pearls directly from selected vendors and farms.
Once the raw pearls are chosen, they are used with the finest materials to create beautiful handcrafted pieces of jewelry.
Zhulia is a dedicated to giving back to our community. As a socially minded business, each piece of jewelry helps support charities for women. Our beneficiaries provide business education, financial and vocational training, and strong support systems to empower women to accomplish a successful future for themselves and their families.
